Coldest air of the season due to impact Forsyth MO area!

It's getting harder and harder to tell that it's still only mid fall when the weather service is forecasting single digit temps for some people living in southwest Missouri overnight on November the 23rd and 24th! The culprit is a re-enforcing blast of arctic air that is streaming in from Canada and which was posed just to the north of Forsyth Missouri in the early morning hours of what could have been an otherwise great Saturday! (A fact that is evident in the radar map pictured below! 

Once that frigid air gets to our area, moderate winds will help to make just about anyone who ventures outside miserable. Those living in low lying areas will also be the unhappy recipients of the coldest air as it will tend to pool in those locations.

Best advice! Hunker down, turn up the thermostat and throw a few extra blankets on the bed before retiring later this evening. 

Isaac poised to do its thing!

OK, so it looks like we are going to take a hit somewhere around New Orleans with what may turn out to be a Category 2 hurricane! While that would be a very sad thing, there is still one positive. Old Isaac will be bringing a boat-load of water with him after he moves ashore later this week! This will be manna from heaven for a ton of farmers, and personally, I hope the track moves a bit more to the west and then motors on through east Texas and southwest Missouri (see graphic). While not a drought buster, a foot or so of rain could turn out to be just the game changer we’ve been looking for!

The summer of 2012 will likely be a hot one. Ya think?

Here it is mid June and already a summer pattern has emerged that forebodes a hot summer yet to come. At 9:30 AM, the thermometer already reads 80 degrees Fahrenheit! The forecast for the coming week calls for highs of 91F, day after day. No rain is in the forecast and so the moderate drought conditions will persist. One has to wonder just how bad things will get.

So far this spring, I’ve been able to avoid running the AC. As you can see by the graph of electrical usage, I’ve managed to stay below 500 kilowatts for each the spring months. It’s been really nice not having large electric bills to have to address at the end of each month as a result. However, with really hot weather in the offing, I’ll be forced to make a choice; either turn on the AC or move to the basement. Hmmm, think I’ll opt for the latter.
